Katherine and James

Congratulations Kathy and James!

The bride and groom and their guests braved sweltering heat for a lovely ceremony at the Hess Village Wedding Chapel in Hamilton. Photos at Gage Park followed. The fountain was tempting!

Web design and compatibility

Thanks everyone for your feedback on the wedding slideshow for Lena and Peter. After hearing all of that, I was reminded why I designed my website the way I did (simple, nothing flashy, easy to navigate). Most people had some sort of complication viewing the Flash format slideshow. Monitors with different resolutions, no Flash plugin installed, connection too slow and who know what other compatibility issues.

As fun as it was to create a slideshow with music and moving pictures, it's no good to anyone if only 30% of the visitors can see it! So with that in mind, I have updated the wedding gallery section with some photos from recent weddings, and kept the complete wedding galleries as password protected areas for the clients, their wedding guests and other friends.

That being said, photos are now online for Tony & Agnes, and Lisa & Marc. Click here to access the galleries.

Lisa and Marc

Another rainy morning cleared up to be a beautiful wedding day for Lisa and Marc. It was an elegant ceremony at the St. George's Golf Course in west end Toronto, followed by a relaxed marche style dinner.

Congratulations Lisa and Marc!

Your photos will be posted soon. In the meantime I wish you a safe trip back to Shanghai.

Tony and Agnes

Congratulations! A beautiful day for a beautiful couple.

Photos will be posted soon.... check under recent weddings at www.imajing.com.

Good night! Need some rest before I go on to photograph Lisa & Marc's wedding tomorrow/today!

In memory

I had a great time photographing the entire Andaloro family after their 2005 Thanksgiving dinner. Jim (first from the left, kneeling), and his siblings Bruce and Debbie hired me to capture this annual event. (Jim is Fred's coach for the Dragons rugby team and sees me at many of the games snapping away).

I was sorry to hear that about the passing of Jim's mother, Mrs. Jacqueline Andaloro (6th from left, standing). She passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on Friday, July 14, 2006 at the age of 77. Fred and I decided to pay our respects and went to the visitation yesterday. I was touched to see so many photos from the October photo session on display. The group photo was shown prominently with other photos of Mrs Andaloro's life.

It's hard to express the feeling I get when I realize how valuable and precious those few hours are that I spend photographing families, babies, weddings... The wedding photos from today will be cherished and after many decades may be displayed again to commemorate someone's life. The baby photos I take today will be trotted out to embarrass the future teenager in front of her new boyfriend, and maybe later be displayed at her wedding. It's amazing. My photography is not saving the world or curing cancer, but it's nice to know that what I do does touch the lives of many people.

Lena and Peter

Congratulations Lena and Peter! It was a beautiful wedding day and a truly international affair with guests from Moscow and Belfast.

Keep checking under Recent Weddings for the photos from their wedding day. Hope to have them up by the end of the weekend.

fun with Javascript

I am not a professional web designer. But I do love playing around with my website and learning new ways of keeping the pages simple yet effective.

I used some free code I found on this javascript tutorial website: www.dynamicpage.com and adapted it for my main imajing.com splash page.

"They" always say that a dynamic page with new content keeps people coming back. That's what this blog is for, and that is also what the new splash page is for. So go ahead to www.imajing.com, press refresh a few times and check it out!

I'll be working more on it soon so that more than 4 different images come up. I will also be making the 'recent weddings' page a bit more exciting. Stay tuned.

Now to get my stuff together, I've got Lena and Peter's wedding to shoot this afternoon!

Looking forward

Here's a good use for those engagement photos...

These are being printed as wallet sized photos at my regular lab. I take them to the wedding and if I haven't already checked, make sure it's ok with the bride to have these available to the guests.

I've done this a few times before and I've found that if you make this little handout (essentially a customized business card) nice enough, the wedding guests actually ask for one, and want to keep it as a wedding souvenir! You don't have to make a million copies -- as a rule of thumb I halve the number of wedding guests so that each couple or household gets one. My notes from my meetings with the couple come into play now (ie. How many guests, colour theme, formality of event, personal style etc).

It's a bonus when you have a great shot of the bride and groom on hand. Failing that, I use another photo. In the case of Nadine and Michael, the photo was taken during a site visit to their wedding venue.

So there we go! The guests get a nice souvenir and a gentle prompt to go to my website. From there they just click click click and find their way to the website, and also have an opportunity to purchase photos. And now that YOU know about these upcoming weddings, make sure you check back often for new wedding photos!

Is anyone reading this blog a photographer? Drop me a line and tell me who you are! Was this information helpful?

it begins...

This week kicks off my whirlwind 7 weddings in 6 weeks extravaganza! Looking forward to photographing all the happy couples. It's been great to get some engagement sessions done: the couple and I get to know each other better and they have a taste of what it will be like to be the stars at their event!

Here's one from this weekend. Andrea and Kevin are getting married on August 5 in London, Ontario. If Andrea looks familiar, it's because she is the older sister of Kathy, as in Kathy and Dave, December 29, 2005 wedding in the Distillery District.

Patio photos

I've gone soft... it took me 3 days to recover from the manual labour of building a patio on the weekend! Some of it might have been just dehydration... still thirsty....

Here are the photos -- from dirt to patio and big pile of dirt!

another busy weekend

Project Patio complete. Thanks to great friends, we were able to move 4 cubic yards of dirt, level what was left, move another 3 cubic yards of gravel and such, level, put down a ton or so of paver bricks, and enjoyed the first bbq party on the new patio. More (with photos) on this later...

In the meantime, Kafrey is now sporting a new 'grown up' leather collar. Custom made, on the spot by the Sandal Man on Davenport. (www.sandalman.com).
