Aphrodite Cooks website launch

Remember those photos of really yummy looking food from the summer? Well they are finally being put to great use on the newly launched www.aphroditecooks.com website.

Aphrodite Cooks is a partnership between chef Vanessa Yeung and event planner Stephenie Summerhill. They specialize in custom designed gourmet dinners brought right into your home. I've tasted their work and would recommend to anyone! Aphrodite Cooks also offers cooking classes for singles (don't you wish you thought of that first?!), where like minded singles can share a culinary experience in a relaxed setting.

Take a peak at their website, tell your friends about their services, and let me know what you think of the photos!

A good bed makes all the difference in a good's night sleep. It was painfully apparent after a weekend on a sub-par hotel bed in Sudbury, which made an old rugby neck injury reappear. Ouch. Luckily it doesn't affect my picture taking ability, I just have to watch it when I pick up heavy bags.

On the other hand, we had a good time in Sudbury on the weekend. A group of us attended Tommi and Kristi's wedding. The weather couldn't have been better.

Yesterday was spent tending to our new-old car -- it needed a new distributor. Not a cheap part!

Alright enough bemoaning, what I really wanted to show off in this post was the album I put together for baby Jake and his parents Meg and Steve. These images will be mounted in a 5x7 leather album and will be a keepsake for years to come.

Here they are (they might be a bit wide on your monitor, but I wanted to show off how it would look as a page spread):

Sarah McLachlan

Canadian music legend and three-time Grammy Award winner Sarah McLachlan has joined GuluWalk as one of the 10,000 reasons for hope in northern Uganda.

Sarah McLachlan is number 560. What number are you?

GuluWalk is a one-day worldwide event focused on raising awareness, support and a push for peace for the abandoned children of northern Uganda.

“I was shocked and deeply saddened to learn about what is happening to the children of northern Uganda,” said McLachlan. “GuluWalk is shining a much needed light on the their struggles, offering us all a way to give hope to the innocent children there. I urge everyone who can, to please sign up. Together, we can make a difference.”

Find out more about how to get involved at www.guluwalk.com

Sarah McLachlan in person is just as lovely as you would expect her to be!

Spirit of Cary

Thank you Town of Markham for inviting me back to photograph another event. Last night was the opening of the "Spirit of Cary" art exhibition. As part of their sister city partnership Cary, North Carolina and Markham, Ontario have each sent selected artwork by local artists to the other city. For more photos click here.

my cup overflows while it pours on my feast

Feast over famine, rains then pours, cup overfloweth... all three of these sayings apply to my week. Here's a brief overview:

- two trips to Georgetown later, we bought a car, yay! used of course, over 10 years old but spent half its winters in florida, so I looks great for its age.

- so long but not farewell to Stacie Dalrymple. It was good to see her at her goodbye party last Saturday. Another one migrated west to cow-town (Calgary)

- hello tenants! Welcome new tenants to our basement apartment. Of course that meant finishing a list of projects as long as my arm that have been put off for the past 2.5 years. This list continued even after they moved in on Thursday, including new items like replacing the bathroom fan -- the old one was installed poorly and vibrated against something and between its location and noise, made it sound like my computer was about to explode.

- I invented a gate

- We rearranged the kitchen. Granted, this project could be classified as a make-work, but it required both of our efforts and it was well worth it. Moving the fridge allows us to finally make use of the cupboards that were above it, magically creates more floorspace, and also makes the cooking 'triangle'.

- increased hours at Athletes for Africa. I guess this is the first I have written about this. For the next 5 months I have taken a part time position with Athletes for Africa, best known for the GuluWalk event. I'm there about 3 days a week as the donor relations officer... but last week, it was more like the database-wrestling-officer. Unfortunately the office is way in the east end and the commute is anywhere from 45 to 75 minutes each way (TTC or car, doesn't make a difference). We are looking for a more centrally located office. If anyone has a lead to an office space that can either be subsidized or donated by a private or corporate donor, please send them our way!

I can't say I don't enjoy being busy! Now that some of that home-stuff is out of the way it's time to pick up a camera again and get back on the photoshop.

Well, here's to a good September!
